  Placement Protocol Ninth grade Placement

For the 2016-17 School Year
May 24, 2016

Note: This placement protocol uses the available predictive data from seventh and eighth grade that has historically provided the best correlation to later success in mathematics. The placement process is based on the understanding that the Mathematics Course 1 through Course 3 sequence will put students on a college and career pathway and will offer them later avenues to such advanced courses as calculus.

1.        Eighth grade students will need to have the following for initial placement into Course 2:

a)     A seventh grade MARS score of at least 20*

b)     An eighth grade MARS RAW score of at least 25

OR

2.       a)    A seventh grade MARS score of 29

          b)    A eighth grade MARS score of at least 18

AND at least 1 of the following:

          c)    A seventh grade SBAC score of level 4

          d)    A eighth grade SBAC score of level 4

All other students will be placed in Mathematics Course 1 in ninth grade.

   * A student not meeting or missing this measure may be placed based on teacher recommendation.
